I can't say I'm the biggest Sparks fan. I know their music, but I'm far from a devotee. But several days of intense listening followed up with Edgar Wright's new documentary about the band helped turn me around. Here's my review of The Sparks Brothers.

Some Thoughts on 'Avengers: Endgame'

I like Avengers: Endgame, but I don't like how it deals with death. Or, rather, how it doesn't deal with death. The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'Nobody Speak,' 'Inside Moves' and 'Baby Driver'

Will and I tackled six movies on the most recent podcast. I talked about The Big Sick and The Beguiled. We both reviewed Transformers: The Last Knight and Baby Driver. 'Baby Driver' Review

I think I've made peace with the fact that Edgar Wright is a filmmaker for other people. Baby Driver, like many of his movies, is very entertaining and innovative. But there's nothing underneath the whiz-bang exterior. I reviewed the film for Screen International.

'Ant-Man' Review

No great fan of Edgar Wright, I didn't burst into tears when it was announced that he was stepping aside from Marvel's Ant-Man project. Replaced by Peyton Reed, the film stars Paul Rudd but never has much comedic momentum. To be fair, its third act goes a long way toward making for an exciting theatrical experience, but it's not enough. All in all, I just feel very blah about Ant-Man: I prefer the studio's other heroes far more. I reviewed Ant-Man for Screen International.

'The World's End' Review

Since Shaun of the Dead, director Edgar Wright's movies have been decent but haven't done that much for me. His latest, The World's End, is his best since Shaun -- and for some of the same reasons. I reviewed the film for Deadspin.

'scott pilgrim vs. the world' review

Is Edgar Wright ever going to make a movie as brilliant and heartfelt as Shaun of the Dead again? I'm starting to worry, although I had a blast watching Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. My review is up at Screen International.
