Venice 2026: 'Possible Love' Review

Lee Chang-dong's Possible Love has some spiritual connections to his last film, the incredible Burning. But it's very much its own astounding creation. My review is live over at Screen International.

Venice 2026: 'Ink' Review

The 83rd installment of the Venice Film Festival kicked off with Danny Boyle's Ink, which looks at the rise of The Sun, the notorious English tabloid. Jack O'Connell, Guy Pearce and Claire Foy are all in fine form. My review is here.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'Teenage Sex and Death,' 'One Night Only,' 'The Last House'

One good movie, two not very good movies are featured on this week's podcast. We both have plenty of nice things to say about Jane Schoenbrun's third feature. But we're not sure what to make of One Night Only or The Last House. Listen to us work through our feelings down below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' and Our Oscar Nomination Predictions

I leave for Sundance tomorrow. Thursday, the Oscar nominations are announced. But first, let's do a podcast. Will and I reviewed The Rip and the latest installment in the 28 Days Later franchise. And then we make some guesses about which people will and won't hear their names called on Thursday morning. Enjoy!

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Ping-Pong, Movie Stars and Stand-Up Comics

This week's episode features three pretty-darn-good movies. You can hear us riff on Marty Supreme, Jay Kelly and Is This Thing On? down below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: New Films From Chloe Zhao, Rian Johnson and Kleber Mendonca Filho

This week's podcast salutes three auteurs. You can check out our reviews of Hamnet, Wake Up Dead Man and The Secret Agent down below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: The 'Wicked' Finale, 'Train Dreams,' 'Sirat'

I am just now realizing that all three movies on this week's episode have trains in them. We lamented Wicked: For Good but praised Train Dreams and Sirat. Check out our conversation down below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Joachim Trier, 'Nouvelle Vague' and 'The Running Man'

Three major directors have big movies on this week's episode. We were both fans of Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value and Richard Linklater's Nouvelle Vague. But, man oh man, did we dislike Edgar Wright's sci-fi flick. You can check out all our thoughts down below.

'In Your Dreams' Review

Two young siblings fear their parents are getting divorced. Maybe the Sandman can help save the day? That's the plot of In Your Dreams, which I found to be a bit of a snooze. You can read my review here.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Checking Into 'A House of Dynamite'

Another larger-than-usual episode, in which we review four new movies. We disagree about Frankenstein, dive into Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, praise It Was Just an Accident and dissect A House of Dynamite. Really good stuff here, which you can hear down below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke, 'The Perfect Neighbor' and 'After the Hunt'

Two phenomenal performances lead this week's podcast. First up, we look at If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, starring Rose Byrne. Then we have Blue Moon, with Ethan Hawke. Later, we sing the praises of The Perfect Neighbor and debate After the Hunt. Really good episode, which you can listen to below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Benny Safdie, Paul Greengrass and 'Steve'

We disagree on two of the three movies we reviewed this week. First up is the Dwayne Johnson real-life wrestling drama The Smashing Machine. Then comes The Lost Bus, which stars Matthew McConaughey. Finally, we dig into the Cillian Murphy school drama Steve. Check out our thoughts down below.

'The Last Thing I Saw': Paul Thomas Anderson, Chloe Zhao and Rian Johnson

I'm a fan of Nicolas Rapold's podcast, in which each episode is devoted to him talking to someone about movies they've seen. So I was tickled to be invited on to The Last Thing I Saw to discuss our shared experiences of going to Venice and Toronto. Naturally, we also went through a lot of films, including One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Hedda and The Lost Bus. Check it out down below.

Toronto 2025: 'Ballad of a Small Player' Review

I figured I'd dig Ballad of a Small Player. A neo-noir set in Macau starring Colin Farrell as a mysterious gambler, the movie checks off lots of boxes for me. So what went wrong? I try to answer that over at Screen International.

Venice 2025: 'Frankenstein' Review

Guillermo del Toro was made to adapt Frankenstein, a story all about misunderstood monsters. My review is live at Screen International.

Venice 2025: 'Jay Kelly' Review

With Jay Kelly, Noah Baumbach suggests that movie stars are people, too. That's a potentially banal observation, but when you have George Clooney playing the movie star, things get interesting. My review is live over at Screen International.

'Devo' Review

I saw Devo at Sundance in 2024. At long last, the film is now available to watch for everybody else. My review is up at the A.V. Club.

'Fixed' Review

What if dogs were secretly horny and foul-mouthed? That's the not-very-clever idea behind Fixed, Genndy Tartakovsky's R-rated animated comedy. Here's my review.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Marvel's First Family, 'Happy Gilmore 2' and 'Tampopo'

Great episode, but not necessarily because of the new movies we reviewed. We start by discussing The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Happy Gilmore 2. But the real fun comes during our Reboot segment, when we look back at 1985's Tampopo, which is a wonderful film. Check it out down below.

'Press Play With Madeleine Brand': On 'Havoc' and 'On Swift Horses'

Alison Willmore and I were on KCRW today to review this weekend's big releases, including The Accountant 2. But we also dug into some of the smaller offerings, like the romantic drama On Swift Horses and Netflix's Havoc, the latest from The Raid filmmaker Gareth Evans. Check out our thoughts down below.
