'Oh, Hi!' Review
In Oh, Hi!, Molly Gordon plays a woman who really digs her new boyfriend (Logan Lerman), until he shocks her during a weekend getaway by admitting he doesn't want a serious relationship. She does not take the news too well, resulting in this dark romantic comedy. There are great ideas in here, but I don't think the movie entirely works. My review is up at the A.V. Club.

Sundance 2016: 'Indignation' Review
Indignation is a strange, off-kilter movie, and I don't mean that in a bad way. Based on the Philip Roth novel, the film stars Logan Lerman as a brilliant Jew from New Jersey who goes off to college in Ohio. It's a culture shock, for sure, but other things seems to be going on internally, including a weird love affair with a pretty, enigmatic classmate (Sarah Gadon). You can read my review over at Screen International.

Toronto 2012: 'Writers' Review
If the Toronto Film Festival gave out a prize for Most Likable Characters, Writers would win in a walk. Everybody in this movie, which stars Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly, is just so gosh-darn pleasant. But that's not the same thing as a great movie, unfortunately. My Writers review is up at Screen International.
(Oh, and one other thing. Logan Lerman, who I've thought had real potential since Jack & Bobby, does great work in this movie. His film career may still have potential.)
(Sorry, one other thing. The movie is, unsurprisingly, about a family of writers. Even though he doesn't exhibit any of this writer's personality traits -- as far as I know, anyway -- is Kinnear meant to physically resemble Jonathan Franzen? Because he sorta does in this movie with the glasses and stubble.)
