The Rapture - "House of Jealous Lovers"

It's so funny, 20-something years later, how clearly this sounds like a LCD Soundsystem song.

The Best Genre Movies of the 1990s

No horror movies are included on this list. (We'll be tackling that next week.) Hope you enjoy.

LCD Soundsystem - "Black Screen"

The closing track on American Dream is this 12-minute simmer, dedicated to David Bowie, that is my favorite type of LCD Soundsystem song: mournful, low-key, really beautiful.

What Are the All-Time Best Music Documentaries?

Rolling Stone has put together a list of the 40 greatest rock documentaries. I was quite happy to be asked to contribute write-ups for several of the finalists. As always, I didn't have a say in the rankings but, hey, I'm pretty happy with how it all shook out. (Truth be told, I'd probably put Gimme Shelter at No. 1, though.) Hope you enjoy.

'Shut Up and Play the Hits' Comes to DVD

Shut Up and Play the Hits chronicles LCD Soundsystem's final concert, but more than that, it dives into the mindset of front man James Murphy as he wrestles with his decision to end the band. The concert footage is great, and the portrait of an artist is great, too. The movie arrives on DVD on Tuesday, so if you had been curious to check it out, now's your chance. I wrote about the film for this week's IFC Fix column.

(P.S. If you've seen the film, you're perhaps aware of one intensely crying audience member during the LCD show that the directors linger on a bit. Well, the kid's become somewhat famous, as this video clip/promotional item explains.....)

lcd soundsystem - one touch

I admit it: I find LCD Soundsystem overrated. Sorta. James Murphy is more than capable of delivering some superb individual tracks, but I think his albums drag as a whole. So while I can't get with the praise that 2010's This Is Happening received, my love of "One Touch" continues unabated.

2010 pazz & jop

I'm still digesting all the information, but this year's Pazz & Jop results are now live. As I guessed, Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy won in a blowout. After that? I thought The Suburbs would be No.2, but that spot went to LCD Soundsystem's This Is Happening. My ballot is here. (Spoiler Alert: On the album side, I'm Mr. Consensus. On the singles side, I'm very much on my own.)

lcd soundsystem

45:33 was a project LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy put together for Nike: a long instrumental suite of songs that joggers could listen to while running. Now available commercially, the album has its merits but isn't quite primo LCD.

peyton manning, comic genius

Yes, Peyton Manning, a football player, was hilarious on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. I sing his praises in Consumables ... and also say nice things about LCD Soundsystem, the Silos, and Low.
