'Your Honor' Review

Bryan Cranston is back in a new limited series over at Showtime. It's a moral drama about a good man who breaks bad. Who could have imagined such a thing playing out? For MEL, I reviewed Your Honor.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Thor, 'Lady Bird' and 'Punch-Drunk Love'

On this week's episode, we cover a lot of movies -- well, I do. Will and I review Thor: Ragnarok, while I go solo to discuss Last Flag Flying, Lady Bird and LBJ. 'Last Flag Flying' Review

I suppose that calling Last Flag Flying "a shrug of a movie" doesn't sound very glowing. But this sequel to The Last Detail works in its own low-key way. I'm not sure about Bryan Cranston as Jack Nicholson, though. My review is up at Paste.

Bryan Cranston Plays a New Monster in 'Wakefield'

For MEL, I wrote about Wakefield, which stars Bryan Cranston as a man who decides to walk away from his life. He doesn't go too far, though: He hides in the family garage, spying on his loved ones who don't know what's happened to him. The movie's only so-so, but the Oscar-nominated actor delivers an inspired performance about a deeply contemptuous man. There are some shades of Walter White in Wakefield, which I explain here.

Toronto 2016: 'Wakefield' Review

It's close but no cigar with Wakefield, an intriguing but ultimately unsuccessful study of a lawyer (Bryan Cranston) who decides to hide out from his family ... by living in the garage. I reviewed the film for Screen International.

'The Infiltrator' Review

Directed by Brad Furman, the man behind The Lincoln Lawyer, The Infiltrator is a very solid but mostly meh crime drama based on the memoir of drug agent Robert Munoz. Bryan Cranston plays Munoz, who goes undercover to bust some drug dealers. This requires him palling around with Diane Kruger, who poses as his fiancee. I found the movie only moderately interesting, as I explain in my Screen International review.
