'Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die' Review
In Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, Sam Rockwell plays a man from the future who recruits a bunch of folks from our time to help him save the world before AI enslaves us. Gore Verbinski's gonzo sci-fi satire exhausted me. My review is here.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'Argylle,' 'How to Have Sex' and 'Ghost World'
Let the record show that we watched Argylle. And let the record also show we hated it. On the podcast, we review that stinker, but then we have a much better time discussing How to Have Sex, which I first saw at Cannes last year. Then, in our Reboot segment, we revisit Ghost World. Hope you enjoy.

'See How They Run' Review
Who doesn't love a good whodunit? The 1950s-set See How They Run actively calls out the cliches and conventions of the genre, resulting in a film that's way too proud of its own cleverness. My review is up at Screen International.

This Week in Genre History: 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' Finally Comes to the Big Screen
Almost 30 years after it first debuted on radio, Douglas Adams' tale of an everyman who goes traveling across the galaxy came to theaters. Over at SyFy, I look back at the movie's making -- and how it ended up being a commercial disappointment.

Some Thoughts on 'Richard Jewell'
Why does America treat its homegrown heroes so shabbily?
What is "Macarena" doing in a Clint Eastwood movie?
And what are we to make of the Kathy Scruggs controversy?
I talk about all that, and Muhammad Ali, over at MEL.

AFI Fest 2019: 'Richard Jewell' Review
Clint Eastwood does that thing he does with Richard Jewell, a biopic about the security guard who helped save lives during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics bombing ... only to be suspected of the crime. Solid, professional, a little simplistic, but still affecting. You know the drill. My review is up at Screen International.

Toronto 2019: 'Jojo Rabbit' Review
Last night was the world premiere of Toronto's most highly-anticipated title, the "anti-hate satire" Jojo Rabbit. It's certainly ambitious and well-intentioned. However...

'Fosse/Verdon' Review
I love Michelle Williams. I like Sam Rockwell quite a lot. I like the idea of a show about the inner workings of the marriage between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. But I only thought Fosse/Verdon was so-so. I explain why over at MEL.
