The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'The End of Oak Street,' 'Amziah King' and 'Union County'

Listeners sometimes complain that Will and I agree too often. Well, those who feel that way will be pleased with this week's episode, where we really disagree on the dinosaur thriller The End of Oak Street. We are more aligned, however, on The Rivals of Amziah King and Union County. Hear us debate down below.

Toronto 2023: 'Mother, Couch' Review

An unlikely companion piece to Beau Is Afraid? That's one way to look at Mother, Couch, about a son's very difficult relationship with his mother, who decides (for whatever reason) to sit on a couch at a furniture store and refuses to get up. My review is up at Screen International.

Clara and Ewan McGregor, real-life daughter and father, star in You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, which is about a daughter and father trying to reconnect after too many years apart. My review is up at Screen International.

'Star Wars' Doesn't Deserve Darth Vader

A character whom George Lucas originally named Dark Water has far since transcended the franchise that spawned him. In honor of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, which made news because it featured the Sith Lord for all of about two seconds, I wrote about Darth Vader's lasting cultural relevance for MEL.

The Scottish actor will be reprising his role from the Star Wars prequels for a new Disney+ series. Does Obi-Wan define his career? Here's my latest for MEL.

'Revenge of the Sith' and the End of George Lucas' Reign

When I was doing research for my piece on the anniversary of Revenge of the Sith's release, I found this quote from an anonymous studio executive back when the prequels were first announced: "Somebody else doing Star Wars means nothing; George Lucas doing it means everything." And then I knew I had my in to talk about Lucas' legacy. My piece is up at SyFy.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'The Hunt,' 'Bloodshot,' 'Never Rarely Sometimes Always' and 'Moulin Rouge'

The podcast must go on. This week, we both review The Hunt, and then I solo on the new Vin Diesel vehicle and Eliza Hittman's acclaimed Sundance drama. Finally, we flash back to 2001 for Moulin Rouge. We'll keep doing new episodes each week -- we talk about that a little, too.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'Parasite' Pulls Off the Upset

That screaming you may have heard last night? That was me when Parasite won Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars. On this week's podcast, we recap the show, review Birds of Prey, debate The Lodge and look back at The 400 Blows. Hope you enjoy.

'Birds of Prey' Review

I think Margot Robbie is very good in this movie. I don't think much else is. My review is up at Screen International.

Some Thoughts on 'Doctor Sleep'

How does Doctor Sleep critique The Shining?

Is it fun to watch Kubrick's movie forwards and backwards simultaneously?

Remember when Stephen King had a column at Entertainment Weekly?

I get into those topics, and others, over at MEL.

'Doctor Sleep' Review

A deft study of trauma is at the heart of this sequel to The Shining. I just wish the plot wasn't so action-movie conventional. My review of Doctor Sleep is up at Screen International.
