The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'The Social Reckoning,' 'My Undesirable Friends: Part II' and 'Animals'

We've got a little bit of everything on this week's episode. We disagree on Aaron Sorkin's The Social Reckoning and then we take a look at Julia Loktev's follow-up to the incredible My Undesirable Friends. Finally, we kick Ben Affleck's terrible thriller Animals around. Check out the banter and reviews down below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'Disclosure Day' and 'Dazed and Confused'

We only cover two movies in this episode, but they're both pretty meaty. First up is Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day. Then, in our Reboot segment, we revisit Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused, which I haven't seen since its opening weekend back in 1993. Hear our thoughts down below.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' and Our Oscar Nomination Predictions

I leave for Sundance tomorrow. Thursday, the Oscar nominations are announced. But first, let's do a podcast. Will and I reviewed The Rip and the latest installment in the 28 Days Later franchise. And then we make some guesses about which people will and won't hear their names called on Thursday morning. Enjoy!

What 'Dogma' Did to Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith's controversial 1999 comedy Dogma returns to theaters tomorrow. For Cracked, I looked back at the film's legacy, and why he never made as interesting a movie afterward. Hope you enjoy.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Ben Affleck, Puppets and Tom Hardy

On this week's episode, we agree on two of the three movies. Which one did we differ on? I won't say. But if you'd like to hear our thoughts on The Accountant 2, The Legend of Ochi and Havoc, click on the box below.

'Press Play With Madeleine Brand': On 'Havoc' and 'On Swift Horses'

Alison Willmore and I were on KCRW today to review this weekend's big releases, including The Accountant 2. But we also dug into some of the smaller offerings, like the romantic drama On Swift Horses and Netflix's Havoc, the latest from The Raid filmmaker Gareth Evans. Check out our thoughts down below.

SXSW 2025: 'The Accountant 2' Review

Greetings from Austin. My first review from SXSW is The Accountant 2, which is one of those rare cases where I didn't like the original, but I like the sequel. You can read my thoughts here.

The Greatest Erotic Thrillers

Rolling Stone asked me to contribute to its list of the best erotic thrillers ever made. I was very happy to write about Double Lover, Gone Girl, Damage, The Handmaiden and Bad Education. Check it out.

'Hypnotic' Review

In Hypnotic, Ben Affleck plays a detective trying to find his missing daughter. Robert Rodriguez has plenty of twists in store, but it doesn't add up to much. My review is over at Screen International.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Air Jordans, 'Dungeons & Dragons' and Mario's Big-Screen Return

A little behind on posting this podcast episode, which was filled with big movies after taking a week off. We both liked Air, one of us liked Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and we both loathed The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Hear the whole thing down below.

Never Forget How Great Matt Damon Is in 'The Informant!'

With Matt Damon getting good reviews for Air, it got me thinking: What is his funniest performance? The answer was easy. Over at Cracked, I sing the praises of The Informant!

SXSW 2023: 'Air' Review

Ben Affleck's last film as a director was the unfortunate Live by Night. He returns to form with Air, about Nike's attempt to sign Michael Jordan in the 1980s. My review is here.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Our Oscar Predictions, 'Deep Water' and 'Windfall'

Ladies and gentlemen, the Oscars are Sunday. On this week's podcast, we make our picks in the six major categories. (We disagree on what's winning Best Picture.) Before that, though, we review two new films: the erotic thriller Deep Water and the crime drama Windfall. Hear the whole thing down below.

Ben Affleck Reveals Himself in 'Deep Water'

One of the most interesting elements of Deep Water is how it can be read as a confessional from its star, Ben Affleck. To be clear, I don't think Affleck is actually communicating something about himself or his public persona, but the performance (much like a slightly similar one he gave in Gone Girl) is intriguing precisely because of our long-term relationship with the star. I go into all this more in-depth over at MEL.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: 'The Last Duel,' 'Halloween Kills' and 'Bergman Island'

Period dramas, horror sequels and the latest from Mia Hansen-Løve are all featured on this week's podcast. Lots to discuss with all three films, even the one that's bad. Hear the whole thing below.

'The Last Duel' Takes on Men in the #MeToo Era

There was a lot of uncertainty in the media and on social media when it was announced that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck had co-written a medieval drama about a knight who challenges another knight to a duel after his wife accuses the other man of raping her. This sounded like pretty sensitive material -- could those two do it justice? For MEL, I went long digging into The Last Duel.

London 2021: 'The Tender Bar' Review

What was the last really good movie George Clooney directed? It's been a while, right? His latest doesn't break that losing streak. For Screen International, I reviewed The Tender Bar.

The Grierson & Leitch Podcast: Going Back to the 1980s for 'Arthur' and 'Cobra'

We spent a lot of time talking about Zack Snyder's Justice League on this week's episode, but what was perhaps more interesting was our discussion of Arthur and Cobra in our Reboot segment. Hear the whole thing down below.

'Zack Snyder’s Justice League' Review

The wait is over. Were you waiting? Well, anyway, here's my review of the hotly-anticipated, much-discussed, four-hour-long "Snyder cut" of Justice League.
