Stranger by the Lake was one of the sensations of Cannes. (Its maker, Alain Guiraudie, won Best Director in Un Certain Regard.) I missed the film there but was able to catch up with it at AFI Fest, thank goodness. It's a slow-burn French thriller that will be opening in the U.S. early next year, although it's going to be a very limited release considering the film's explicit gay sexual content.
