Lee Daniels' The Butler enters the marketplace clearly hoping to be a sweeping, feel-good Oscar contender. Drawing comparisons to Forrest Gump and The Remains of the Day, this drama is certainly moving, but it also feels too rush to be the exhaustive survey of the black experience in the 20th century that it's aspiring to be.
