As a rule, I don't think film critics should tell directors what type of movie they should have made; our job is to evaluate the one they did make. But A Million Little Pieces is an odd little thing. You remember that book, right? Written by James Frey about his harrowing drug addiction and recovery? It was a huge deal? Then it turned out he made a bunch of it up?
