For years, Stanley Kubrick didn't want you to see
Fear and Desire, his debut feature that he made in the early 1950s. Naturally, that made everyone want to see it. Late last year, it had its world television premiere on Turner Classic Movies, and it's going to be playing twice in New York over the next few days during
New Directors/New Films. I took the opportunity to write about
Fear and Desire, which is a classic example of a movie that's not good, per se, but is rather interesting. My article is up at
The Village Voice.
(By the way, as an added bonus,
check out these Kubrick photographs from the 1940. Amazing stuff.)
